Larry Fishman realized there was a need for high quality means of amplification for acoustic instruments when he was running into trouble amplifying as a jazz upright bassist. The first acoustic transducer he designed and built would become the ever-popular BP-100, for his own bass. Before long he realized how important it was to offer the same quality transducers for guitar, mandolin, violin, cello, banjo, harp and more. From the Natural I piezo transducers to the Rare Earth Active Resophonic Guitar pickup, to the Concert Master Violin Pickup with both a microphone and bridge transducer (with blend capabilities and everything being easily removable) there is a great tool for nearly anyone.
Concerned primarily with high quality acoustic sound in an electronic setting, Fishman and Co. have advanced the state of the art to give you the best sound possible. The choice of hundreds of professionals from Jerry Douglas to Ani DiFranco to Dave Matthews to Tim O’Brien to Dwight Yoakam to Ed Gerhard, Leo Kottke and Alison Krauss, Fishman has consistently been synonymous with quality.
For a classical guitarist, harpist, or dulcimer player Fishman also makes soundboard transducers, which work very well with such instruments. Furthermore they also make a complete line of excellent preamps designed to work with acoustic pickups, giving the player a great ability to fine tune their sound, put them in control of volume, and offer features like a D.I. box function, ground lift, and feedback deterrents. These pieces are ideal for anyone playing live and economically priced for the enthusiast through the seasoned professional.
Also keeping an eye on the future, Fishman continues to push boundaries on the acoustic/electric front. Recent additions to their line include the Fishman Loudbox Amplifier, and the Fishman AuraPedal. The Loudbox, which is consistently loved by reviewers, is an extremely powerful and beautiful sounding amp designed for acoustic instruments. At 250 watts and with an angle adjuster for speaker direction, it is an ideal amp for many different acoustic applications. It is also available in a 500 watt version, and both offer superior tone and performance for the discriminating player. The Aura Pedal is another cool new Fishman product. Designed to increase the sound quality of a standard piezo pickup, it will blend your guitar’s signal with a sound patch from a similar guitar recorded with a high quality mic in a studio. Designed in conjunction with Akai International, it gives a player a live acoustic sound that rivals some of the best studio sounds you’ve heard – and you don’t have to worry about staying on top of a microphone. It offers a large spectrum of adjustability, incredible sound quality, can function as a Direct Box, and has a built in tuner.
We are quite familiar with all of the Fishman pieces – if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask. We’re here to help you, and we’d like to help you fine tune your live acoustic sound. Let us know what we can do for you.
